Age Restrictions
Like if being a Nigerian wasn't enough Here to digest the #EndSarsNow movement)
Would I ever understand why?
Maybe not, it really looks like I won't ever.
It's like the world wants you to start living only when you turn 18, it's like your existence is irrelevant until you turn 18.
And yet you're expected to have five years of experience by the age of 23, it's complicated, it clashes.. It seems impossible, it feels impossible.
But yet, that's what expected. How do you do it when any organization you can join to aid your personal growth and boost your CV quality, stamps the ‘Must be Over 18’ on any form you want to fill... How?
I'm not talking about internships that have no age restrictions, I'm talking about businesses.. Real businesses.
Certain bank accounts, certain programs... Certain Internships.... Certain anything that you obviously need to join, certain anything that can improve you or your life... The stamp is always there, and it's so frustrating, I already deal with a ton of sh#t for just living in Nigeria (Nigeria is either an unsupported country or a banned country somewhere on an online form)
I don't know, it just feels like the law is basically just screaming: ‘We're protecting you by restricting you!’, ‘You're just kids and kids can't make good decisions’, I can really hear some judge yelling, ‘you're probably going to regret it a year later so why not just wait till you're legal so I won't have to hear you cry? When you're 18, I'd be able to say: See look, you're an adult... You signed up for this, you're responsible for your actions. Shutup and get the f#ck out and since I can't tell that to a child! You're not allowed to give me reasons to tell you that, now Get out!!’ at me.
That's how I really see things.

Would you say they have you in their best interest? Are they really trying to protect you?
From what? What's six months extra going to do for you? What knowledge are you suddenly going to obtain when you turn 18?
(This is the part where you realize out I'm just ranting to blow off some steam)
What's the difference between a 17 year old and an 18 year old? What happens in that space of one year that qualifies you to join?
What sudden revelation do you have before you turn 18 because I'm genuinely curious...
It really feels like oppression to me at this point, even Wattpad won't let you join certain things... Yes, wattpad.

Are you really still a child at age 17? Are you still as naive as you were 10 years ago?
Can you differentiate between what's wrong and right? Have you already gotten at least six years of proper education?
Legally, you're still a kid and you're still the responsibility of your parents/guardians... They have to provide for you, it's the law, you're still a kid.
We get it, babies can't do anything. Babies can't think for themselves, We get it!
Mentally, you're an adult, you've dealt with problems on your own, you're already as independent as you can be, you've seen betrayals, you've also probably lost someone.
That's why countries where 16 year olds can be free are seriously and heavily underrated.
Because honestly, if you're from a country where you're permitted to be an individual from age 16, you're lucky.
Really lucky, you have no idea what the good Lord has done for you.

But anyways, I'm pretty sure I'd really understand soon, understand why I have to be 18 to do anything useful, it must be that whole, ‘You'd understand when you get older’ type of stuff...
I guess so. Hopefully
But well, until then I'd be sulking over the next form I couldn't fill because I was either from Nigeria or under 18.

Update:
Well, now I'm 18😗and all those age restrictions are GONE, I've been living my life as an adult 🤭It's the best. Everything I complained about (and more that joined), all got lifted once it hit 12:00am on June 14th😗
